ABOUT

Evolver Studio is a recording studio run by me, David Eering. After designing and building the studio myself, Evolver opened its doors in 2026.

Inspired by the likes of Steve Albini, capturing the raw sound of a band as it sounds in a room defines my approach, but this doesn't rule out experimentation. Whatever floats your boat. Making a stripped down hardcore punk record is fun, sculpting a prog record by adding bells and whistles and layer upon layer along the way is also an exciting process. By preference, basic tracks will mostly be recorded live with a Mac just registering the output of the mics, console and outboard gear: basically like a tape recorder. Mixing will be done in Logic. The analog/digital hybrid operation makes recording here an authentic experience, but with the flexibility and efficiency of modern tools.

An analog feel is also a matter of workflow and mindset.

I am a multi-instrumentalist/vocalist and play in The Machine, the studio doubles as our HQ and rehearsal space. I've been touring the underground rock scene throughout entire Europe for 15+ years; I know what it's like to be an indie musician. That experience and pragmatism is something I feed back in running a stress-free and easy-going recording studio. My main goal was to create an inviting and atmospheric space that sparks creativity, with enough physical space and a professional infrastructure while also preserving a DIY vibe. The second goal was to create a place that facilitates projects that need a big drum sound. Small-ish rooms with a reasonably low ceiling are not uncommon for indie studios, which can work out just great but if you want lively and roomy drums this can become a challenge without artificial help. The amount of square meters of the floor area in the live room at Evolver is comfortable but not huge, yet the room has a very high (sloped) ceiling. While the room still feels intimate, the internal volume (m3 not dB) of the space offers the possibility to record natural-sounding spacious drums. Evolver aims to offer a happy medium between a low key studio and the spacious sound of a big live room.

Although my own band is primarily a very loud rock act, this doesn't necessarily mean that I only want to work with bands that operate in a similar universe. I am a sucker for variety and change (in general) and my own personal taste includes a very wide diversity of genres and styles; this will benefit us working together. Good music is good music. My approach and methods probably suit guitar-based music a lot, but I'd be happy to record your ambient-semi-improv-drone project too. Bands with an unconventional sound and eccentric nature will certainly be a good match, from noise rock to psych jazz. From 90s slacker indie to stoner doom and math rock to shoegaze and everything in between and around.

The Machine's 2026 album Another Sun was the first album to be recorded at Evolver. The process was used to test the studio's infrastructure gear, with recording sessions taking place in late 2025 in a yet un-finished studio. This maiden voyage was completed successfully and paved the way for other projects to come here.
